I am now living in the Herault department of the Languedoc region of France.
The town is typical of this area with narrow streets lined with mostly 3 level houses with wrought iron balconies, many of which were 16th century wine makers residences. The focal point is the large Gothic style church with a steeple that stands out for miles in the nearby countryside.
Having been based mostly in the Lot district on previous visits, I’m excited to be able to live in and explore a whole new region of France. The Languedoc has a wide range of landscapes; plains with rolling vineyards leading down to the Mediterranean, the foothills, and then the sparsely populated remote mountainous areas.
There’s a mixture of great painting material - rugged hilltop villages, medieval towns, coastal areas lined with canals, and colourful seaside villages with brightly painted boats. And on top of all this, I believe Languedoc-Roussillon is the most productive wine region in the world!
I have just returned from a wonderful 2 month visit to Greece and am currently working on a rather ‘blue’ portfolio – this being the vivid blue of the water and skies there! The new ‘Greece’ section in the Gallery has just been created and will be added to over the next couple of months.
