A Tuscan Hillside

A day’s drive amongst the rolling hills of Tuscany and Umbria is a totally inspirational thing for me. I love the rows of trees standing to attention, and the folds of the hillsides. Every season seems to have its own beauty;  from the wavering golden wheat in summer, to the bare soil in winter.

Positano, Italy

Positano, Italy

Beautiful, but rather upmarket Positano is one of my favorite places to paint. I first spent time there in 1987, and its certainly changed a lot since then. I love the colour of the buildings, and seeing them all crammed into the small valley – mountains up behind and the sea in front. The photo I painted from was taken from a boat in the harbour – the only way to see the foreshore from this angle really!

Greek Pot 2

GreekPot-2Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – Greece.

Greek Pot 2 is another collage in my Greek Pot Series. Done on a small canvas by applying gesso and a course medium, I added pieces of torn Greek newspaper and drew the pot onto that base. Various layers of paints, inks and glaze were added, along with some handmade stamps.  The shape of this pot was inspired my many of my sketches.

Koroni Rooftops 2

KoroniRooftops2

Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – Greece.

Koroni Rooftops was painted from one of the many photos I’ve taken whilst walking down to Koroni through the many laneways and steps. There are so many different views and they all seem to look different each time I walk down, depending I guess on the weather, the light etc.  This is one of my favourite, without too many power lines in the way!
