Continuation Acrylics – Week 3

Despite the disgusting weather, everyone arrived bright and cheerful, and keen to get into the painting. After a ‘show and tell’ of some brilliant work done in the week, it was once again heads down and brushes moving.

This week two were finished off brilliantly. Apologies if the colours aren’t quite doing them justice ladies!

A huge amount of work over in just two weeks.  I look forward to seeing what’s coming next!

I’ve decided to add the images separately, unlike the previous blog, which just didn’t do them justice.  I hope all the artists can see just how great all the paintings look, even partially done, when viewed ‘from afar’!

2014 Continuation Acrylic Painting

My 2014 Continuation Acrylics classes are now underway in Gill’s lovely studio. Six keen artists arrived to continue the challenge and after a quick reminder about the technique, they forged ahead brilliantly and by the end of the morning had achieved some great under-paintings.

Everyone finished the class well into the ‘ink on a stick phase‘, and next week will see them launching themselves into more opaque paint in mid and light tones. If this all sounds rather hectic, it was, and most surely a very busy morning!

Art Weekly No 133 – Reflets de France

AW-133_Reflets-de-France
For Sale – 10th December 2013 – SOLD

This title is actually a well known food brand here, but I do think it also suits this painting as, to me, it is one of the rather memorable ‘reflections of France’.  These long straight roads lined with plane trees are such a wonderful sight at all times of the year, but there is something quite stunning about them in winter when they’re almost bare and their trunks glimmer almost white in the sunshine. We have been getting plenty of sunshine here in the Languedoc, but that also comes with COLD. When I got inside following my early morning trot down to the boulangerie recently, Peter was pleased to point out that was minus 5oC! I suspect it might almost be warmer in the UK (and that’s saying something!) where we’re heading off towards tomorrow, with a few days exploring Normandy along the way.

Art Weekly No 131 – Italian Lemons

AW-131-ItalianLemons
For Sale – 15th October 2013 –

I guess Italian lemons do look like any other lemons! I seem to have rather a collection of photos of them, and these are mostly taken around the Amalfi Coast or Cinque Terre areas of Italy. Many of the shops have beautiful displays outside, just waiting for a quick photo to be snapped, and many of the restaurants have a simple heaped bowl of lemons sitting on a table before the restaurant is barely open in the morning. Then of course, speaking of lemons, there’s also the wonderful Lemoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur. This particular photo, was taken in Manarola, Cinque Terre on our visit there last year.

Koroni Arts Festival, Koroni, Greece – September 2013

In conjunction with the Koroni Arts Festival, my latest and joint exhibition with fellow artist Gill Tomlinson, got off to a flying start with a great opening on 11th September. We were fortunate to be able to have our Exhibition in the lovely Maniatakeion building in ‘downtown’ Koroni, perfect with its large white walls and high ceilings. It was a particularly hot and steamy night, and I think the very professional interview and video has Gill and I looking surprisingly composed and cool!

I had various recently completed paintings on display, along with Gill’s mostly collage and mixed media works. The table down the middle of the Gallery contained our sketchbooks, which created a lot of interest. Some people even asked if they were for sale…. right!

Venezia, Italy

CO-16_Venezia_Italy

Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – Collage.

This collage was created from of a series of my sketches from Venice, blended with bits of Italian newspaper, various mediums and mixed media. It’s interesting loosely sketching the little gondolas – one wrong move, and its all over!

Poppies at the Chateau

Poppies-at-the-Chateau

Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – French Life.

I photographed these poppies whilst staying at Chateau Mouillepied in the Charente area of France way back in 2005. Although it was a rather modest chateau, they had the most beautiful gardens, and when I arrived I had to seek out Monsieur who was merrily digging away amongst the bushes. I knew one day I’d finally get around to painting these poppies.
