This painting has had many iterations, but my desire was to convey blue water and islands, perhaps resting points, somewhere in the world.

Photos taken in the mornings of the lovely harbour in Koroni usually capture the beautifully calm waters of the bay, stretching across to the Mani Peninsula in the distance. It’s not necessarily so calm later in the day!

September 2018
This mixed media painting was originally inspired by the colours of Greece, but I decided for a change I would try for more subtle shades than my usual bright blues.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable exhibition, firstly because it was combined with my eldest son, James’ wonderful photography, and secondly because my paintings were in a totally different direction from what I usually paint. The Creative Space in Curl Curl, Sydney, is a large and beautifully presented exhibition space and we were able to use it not only to promote our paintings and photographs, but also to tell the story of the importance of saving our beautiful oceans and marine life.
For this exhibition, I had created a new series of paintings of Australian waves and abstract ocean patterns. This was a totally new direction for me – from the structural forms of European buildings (although usually wonky!) to the curves and exciting formation of waves and the ocean, not to mention a totally new colour palette.
One of my few paintings of Australian landscape – something I’m aiming to correct. On one of our recent trips, we had a wonderful drive along this beautiful coastline. Nothing like rolling waves and gigantic rocks to get the juices flowing!

Summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere, and I recently spent a wonderful few days on the lovely island of Skiathos, painting up a storm with my good friend Yvonne, of Painting Skiathos (www.paintingskiathos.wordpress.com.) This little painting was one of the results.
We’re back in Koroni now, and although its not very touristy here, we still get our share of summer visitors, so its plenty of beach and relaxation time for us throughout August. Now that I’ve managed to re-organise ‘my studio’ into the corner of our dining room, there should hopefully be some new paintings coming along, and maybe even a long overdue Newsletter.
