Art Weekly 178 – Along the Great Ocean Road

16th August 2017

One of my few paintings of Australian landscape – something I’m aiming to correct.  On one of our recent trips, we had a wonderful drive along this beautiful coastline. Nothing like rolling waves and gigantic rocks to get the juices flowing!

Art Weekly 177 – Light on Skiathos

2nd August 2017

Summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere, and I recently spent a wonderful few days on the lovely island of Skiathos, painting up a storm with my good friend Yvonne, of Painting Skiathos (www.paintingskiathos.wordpress.com.) This little painting was one of the results.

We’re back in Koroni now, and although its not very touristy here, we still get our share of summer visitors, so its plenty of beach and relaxation time for us throughout August. Now that I’ve managed to re-organise ‘my studio’ into the corner of our dining room, there should hopefully be some new paintings coming along, and maybe even a long overdue Newsletter.

Art Weekly 174 – The Next Wave, Curl Curl

aw-174-thenextwave_curlcurl6th December 2016 – SOLD

It sure has been a while since my last Art Weekly, and as those of you who follow me on Facebook and Instagram know, I’m up to my ears in “waves” right now.  It’s only a week before we hop on the plane to Sydney, and with an exhibition in February, I’ve plenty to get finished in that short time.

My Sydney exhibition, MOTHER OCEAN, is scheduled to open on 1st February at the Warringah Creative Space, 105 Abbott Street, North Curl Curl. The exhibition will show my paintings and eldest son, James’s fabulous photographs featuring, naturally enough, the ocean and its surrounds. James’ photos are the subject of most of my paintings, so it will be fascinating to see them both on the walls. I hope if you’re in the area, you can come along and say hello to us both, and see my temporary change of direction. I’m really loving painting the waves, but next year I do plan on returning to exploring more abstract European scenes as well.

In the meantime, this long overdue Art Weekly is just a small version of what I’ve been immersed in.

I’m having a few intermittent problems with my email right now, so in case anyone wants to respond to this, and receives a bounce back, please try me on jackiesinfrance@hotmail.com. It does still work!

If you would like to buy this painting, please click on this link to my Art Weekly Online Shop, or if you’d rather deal with me direct, please email me at jackie@jackiesherwood.com.

Over the Great Barrier #2

oc-11_overthegreatbarrier2

The photograph I painted this from was taken by James whilst flying over the Great Barrier, Reef in Queensland, Australia. It’s the second in a small series of abstracts and I just love the patterns that the reef makes in its brilliant blue waters.

Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – Oceans.

Northern Territory Coral #1

oc-08_ntcoral1

This painting forms part of my ‘Oceans’ series and the photograph of this coral was taken by James in the Northern Territory of Australia. It seemed a unusually dull coloured coral, and I tried to keep my usual love for bright colours under control.

Details of this painting can be found in Gallery – Oceans.

Art Weekly 171 – Fiskardo, Kefalonia

AW-171_Fiskardo-Kefalonia26th May 2016

It seems every time I send out an Art Weekly these days, I apologise for my tardiness! I’ve been working on larger canvasses recently, and the AWs seem to have taken a back seat. However, I’ve now decided to absorb some of my paintings from the #100 Painting Challenge which I’ve been taking part in, into the Art Weekly mailouts. They are smaller, hence the price reduction, and perhaps a little simplified, which I rather like. If you follow me on either Facebook or Instagram you may well have seem some of these!

This one is a small bay in Fiskardo, a lovely Venetian town in the north of Kefalonia. The water around the island is a brilliant turquoise, and I had fun capturing it, using acrylic inks for a change, in an endeavour to keep the freshness. It seems fitting to send this painting out today, as we’re heading to Kefalonia on Monday to meet up with my eldest son James, and his partner Danielle. We plan to spend a few days there, and on Zagkynthos, before coming back down to Koroni. Let’s hope our usual Greek summer kicks in soon!

Sandstone Inspiration Triptych 2

AB-10_SandstoneInspirationTriptych2

These 3 mixed media canvases are part of my ‘Sandstone Inspiration’ series. They are 3 individual 20 x 20cm canvasses which can be hung separately, or incorporated together within one frame as a triptych . The paintings were inspired by my photos of the amazing sandstone rock formations that can be found along the Australian coastline. These ones were at Curl Curl, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Details of each separate painting can be found in Gallery – Abstracts.
